The Benefits of Taking a Cold Shower – Comfort Zone Killer

Comfort zone killerMost people would definitely prefer hot showers over freezing cold showers. And it’s understandable. Hot showers are warm, relaxing, makes you feel pretty good and it has its own set of benefits.

You might never even have considered doing it, because you never knew the benefits of taking a cold shower.

I started taking cold showers a year ago and before that, I never even considered taking them, because I HATE cold.

Hot showers are no longer the option for me… The cold ones are benefiting my mind and body way more!

I still don’t like taking cold showers but it makes me feel really good right after I finish showering.

The benefits of taking a cold shower

There are many benefits of taking cold showers and I’m pretty sure you will be tempted to try it out after you finish reading this article.

Reduces stress and depression

Basically, while you’re taking a cold shower, you’re actually putting some stress on yourself but that’s why it reduces your stress and depression.

Everything that happens in your daily life will be less stressful, because your body and mind develops the ability to handle stress much better than before.

All the small things won’t make you as angry and stressed. You will find it easier to handle the situations if something in your life doesn’t go the way you wanted it to go.

It could actually put too much stress on you and make everything worse but only if you start taking cold showers without slowly getting used to it.

Promotes weight loss!

Cold showers help lose weightTaking cold showers is actually a great way to lose some extra weight. Since your body is getting cold from the water, it needs to keep itself warm.

And for that to happen your metabolism gets a nice boost, which means that you will be burning more calories.

Also, cold showers will only promote fat loss and not muscle loss, so your weight loss will be much healthier.

Just don’t expect that your fat will drop like crazy just by taking cold showers. It doesn’t work like that. While it will definitely help a bit, you still need to eat healthy food and exercise regularly to maintain a healthy body.

It will alert you

While most people rely on coffee in the morning before they go to work, school or anywhere else, the benefits of taking a cold shower provide much more to start your day.

It will alert and boost your mood way better than a cup of coffee will ever do.

When you get hit by the cold water, your body will get shocked. You will find it hard to breathe but that is because your body has to warm itself up.

You will start to take deep breaths in order to provide more oxygen for your body. That’s why you will alert your body immediately as the cold water hits you.

If you always wake up without any energy and motivation, cold showers will do wonders for you. You will be much more productive throughout the day, because you’re alerted and full of energy the minute you step out of the shower.

Never get sick again!

Never get sick by taking cold showersI used to get sick quite a lot. Common cold for me was… well, common. When I started taking cold showers I realized that I haven’t been sick for a very long time.

It’s been a whole year now and I don’t get sick anymore. It just doesn’t happen! I’m also way more resistant to cold weather. I don’t feel as cold as before.

While everyone is putting on warm clothes, I feel like I could get out outside naked in the winter and still barely feel cold.

Cold showers boost your immune system very nicely by promoting metabolism and fat loss. Those little viruses will find it hard to get you sick!

If you’re tired of getting sick all the time and find it hard to get warm in the winter, then cold showers will change this forever! You won’t want to go back to warm showers anymore after you experience these benefits.

Of course, if you have an unhealthy lifestyle, then you will still get sick from time to time. But it will happen less frequently. Stick to regular exercise and eat healthy food. If you do that, cold showers will seal the deal!

Your muscles will recover faster

A lot of athletes actually take cold showers to recover their muscles much faster.

If you exercise a lot, you might have some experiences with sore and simply tired muscles. You wake up in the morning and feel like your muscles are ripped apart.

Yes it’s a sign of muscle growth but the benefits of taking a cold shower will help those muscles to recover way faster.

This will help you out to get the most of your exercises. You won’t get tired as fast and your muscles won’t be as sore, so you will be able to perform at your best when it comes to working out.

Forget all the skin and hair products!

Cold showers actually make your skin and hair look much better. And it’s completely natural so you won’t need to use or at least use way less skin and hair products.

The cold water will tighten your skin, thus fewer oils will be released. So you’re tired of the greasy and oily look on your hair and skin, just start taking cold showers.

It saves a lot of time and money, because you won’t need to spend as much on beauty products.

My most favorite benefit of all – Comfort zone killer

Leave your comfort zoneThis might actually surprise you, because not a lot of people actually talk about this benefit at all. And I think out of all the benefits of taking a cold shower, this is the best one you can get.

We always tend to stay in our comfort zone, because we are scared to try something new, afraid of taking actions.

Just think about your comfort zone. Things like playing video games, watching TV, driving a bike or even walking.

You feel very confident about these things, because you’ve done it for as long as you can remember and you find it easy. That is your comfort zone, where you feel safe and confident.

Now think about when you get out of your comfort zone, when you try something new. You start to doubt yourself, you begin to sweat and feel nervous about it, you feel like losing control. You don’t know if you can succeed at the thing you’re trying to do.

But with every challenge you throw at yourself, even though it might be scary at first, when you overcome that challenge, you start growing as a person. You become more confident in yourself, much wiser and all those fears you had will disappear, because now it becomes your comfort zone.

It’s the secret to succeeding in life

Every successful person succeeded because they always leave their comfort zone, it’s the secret to success. They venture deep outside to face all the challenges and fears.

It probably got you thinking, how can cold showers help you succeed in life? Well, cold showers are really good for leaving your comfort zone.

Whenever you enter your shower and you look at the knob, you start thinking what would happen if cold water would start raining down on you. You begin to fear this situation.

The benefits of taking a cold shower

Then you start making excuses why you shouldn’t do that. “I hate cold, what’s the point, hot showers feel way better, I don’t need this”, are just a few excuses you might make.

And it happens all the time. You make excuses when you fear something. Talking to stranger, getting a new hobby or making changes in your life might sound scary to you. So you don’t do it, because you would need to get out of your comfort zone.

So, when you’re taking cold showers, you develop the ability to leave your comfort zone, because you’re facing your fear of cold water and you do it everyday.

Since you begin to leave your comfort zone by taking cold showers, you will face all the other fears that you have with more confidence and more actions.

How to start doing it

Like I’ve said before, starting out with freezing cold water without ever doing it before can put a lot of stress on you.

To get all the benefits of taking a cold shower you don’t have to start out with cold water. You can just start out with warm water and then go colder and colder until it can’t go any colder.

When you reach the coldest point, try staying there for 3 minutes. Then every day try to increase the time by 10 seconds until you get to 10 minutes.

I know it might sound really hard to do. It is hard. But you have to beat your own mind, don’t let it make excuses. Just take full control!

It all starts with you

If you never leave your comfort zone, then you’re missing out on life. Do you want to become the greatest version of yourself? Then don’t make excuses why you can’t do this or that.

Start taking cold showers and make it a daily habit. This habit will definitely lead you to many more great habits and you will have much more confidence and you’ll be able to beat all the challenges you’re getting in your daily life!

You listed a lot of benefits of a cold shower but no matter the benefits, I can just never really shower in cold water, I have tried it in the past, as soon as the water hit my body, I thought my heart will stop.
Now you mention cold shower making muscles recover faster, still, I don`t think I`m strong enough to try it, my muscles do ache after climbs( I`m a gentle mountain climber).
The only place on my body that I can use cold water to wash is my face. But as you mention, it`s a matter of leaving comfort zones so maybe in the middle of summer when it`s 50 degrees out there, I will give it a try.

It’s best to try developing the habit of taking cold showers when it’s summer time and it’s really hot outside. When it’s winter, we naturally fear cold more than usual. I know it’s not for everyone, because some people simply can’t take cold showers no matter what.

Thanks for your interesting post. However, I’m not sure will I ever try having a 10-minute cold shower every day. I do agree with a lot of your points the only thing is, many people go through life battling a lot of struggle and strife. I for one have often had a very bad day and ended up ever so grateful for my very hot shower. Your idea that staying in your comfort zone prevents you from growing is shared by many. Again, I tend to disagree as many people have all sorts of tragedies thrown at them. They need an deserve a comfort zone. Nonetheless, I shall try and have a quick cold shower later today!

It depends on what you’re going through in life. Everyone needs some time in their comfort zone more or less, but it’s important to try out new things and do something that you’re not comfortable doing.

You are certainly right when it comes to getting out of your comfort zone. I feel the same sometimes when I am about to go for a run. It just does not feel good to get out in the cold and the dark when you can stay inside but once you have done it and you come back home, you feel a lot better and the comfort of being inside is even greater.
I have never taken cold showers lasting as long as three minutes but what I often do is to turn tap to colder and colder and then finish my shower really cold. This feels refreshing and I feel like I get a lot more energy like this.

    1. Donny says:

Indeed, it’s hard to get yourself out of the comfort zone but the feeling after you’ve done it is amazing! Turning the tap to colder and colder is the best way to start for everyone, because it’s nearly impossible to start with freezing cold water right away! The shock is way too strong.
